A pochissimi giorni dall’uscita del singolo “Heartless”, The Weeknd presenta un’altra canzone, “Blinding Lights”, un brano che per il suo ritmo up-tempo riporta l’ascoltatore alle sonorità del pop anni ‘80.
A differenza del singolo precedente, nel quale il cantante afferma di non aver bisogno di nessuno al suo fianco, in “Blinding Lights” Abel – nome anagrafico dell’artista – prega la sua amata di non lasciarlo, perché solo lei è in grado di salvarlo e di insegnargli ad amare. È una dichiarazione d’amore in cui The Weeknd afferma che senza di lei non riesce a vedere bene intorno a sé, non è in grado di addormentarsi e la città gli sembra deserta.
In “Blinding Lights” The Weeknd promette che non sprecherà altre occasioni per stare con chi lo ama e ha il potere di illuminare le sue giornate.
Il cantante multiplatino già vincitore di tre Grammy Awards si è cimentato anche come direttore creativo della nuova campagna pubblicitaria della casa automobilistica Mercedes-Benz, per la quale è stato utilizzato proprio il singolo “Blinding Lights”.
