Attrice di grande talento, ha recitato in serie di successo come “Baywatch” e “Le Sorelle McLeod”, drama molto amato anche in Italia, in cui ha interpretato per cinque anni il ruolo di Stevie Hall, appassionata di viaggi ma anche imprenditrice, Simmone Jade Mackinnon ha creato la linea “Wandering Ozzie Essentials” che comprende una vasta gamma di abiti e accessori di pregiata fattura e che ha anche una finalità benefica: per ogni singolo acquisto effettuato, infatti, una percentuale del ricavato verrà devoluto a The Council Of Single Mothers and Their Children per aiutare le mamme single australiane e i loro figli. Tante ottime idee per un regalo di classe, magari in occasione di Natale.
In questa intervista esclusiva che ha gentilmente concesso, Simmone Jade Mackinnon ci ha parlato della sua azienda, della partecipazione al reality The Summit, del desiderio di interpretare nuovamente Stevie Hall in un eventuale reboot de “Le Sorelle McLeod” essendo molto legata a quel personaggio, e della bellezza di incontrare e conoscere persone e culture viaggiando per il mondo, perchè come dice il suo motto “non tutti coloro che vagano sono perduti”.

Simmone, iniziamo parlando della sua azienda Wandering Ozzie. Come è nata questa idea?
“Quando ho iniziato a viaggiare per l’Australia ho deciso di documentare i miei viaggi con il nome di Wandering Ozzie. Avevo degli account privati sui social media, ma volevo condividere i miei viaggi con il mondo e quindi mi serviva uno pseudonimo. Poi, quando è arrivata la pandemia, avevo bisogno di un lavoro che potessi svolgere da casa. Così ho creato la mia linea Wandering Ozzie Essentials. Si tratta di tutti i prodotti e gli oggetti che mi piace usare quando viaggio. Creo ciò che mi piace e che utilizzo e poi lo vendo nella speranza che piaccia anche agli altri”.
Una splendida linea di abbigliamento e accessori, che ha anche uno scopo benefico, infatti una percentuale dei profitti viene donata alle madri single…
“Ho voluto associarmi al Consiglio delle madri single e dei loro figli perché so bene quanto sia difficile essere una mamma single. E quindi volevo aiutarle in qualche modo”.

L’abbiamo vista di recente a The Summit 2024. Cosa l’ha convinta a partecipare a questo reality?
“Sono stata contattata dai produttori di The Summit alla fine di ottobre dello scorso anno. Avevo visto il programma e mi era piaciuto molto, così ho colto al volo l’occasione per partecipare. Sapevo che sarebbe stata dura, ma non credevo sarebbe stato così feroce. È stata l’avventura fisicamente più difficile che abbia affrontato. Non avevo mai provato prima di quel momento il dolore che ho sopportato su quella montagna. E lo dice una ex ballerina di danza classica che sa bene che cos’è il dolore”.
È un programma avventuroso che porta i concorrenti a sfidare i propri limiti e le proprie fragilità. Che cosa ha scoperto di sé che non conosceva ancora?
“The Summit mi ha spinto fino ai miei limiti fisici, emotivi e psicologici. Ho imparato che sono molto più forte e resistente sotto tutti gli aspetti di quanto pensassi e che ho una forza che negli ultimi anni è rimasta potenzialmente nascosta. È stato fantastico riaccendere quel fuoco dentro di me”.

Nella sua carriera, ha interpretato Stevie Hall in “Le sorelle McLeod”, una serie televisiva molto amata anche in Italia. Cosa hanno aggiunto questo personaggio e questo drama al suo percorso artistico e umano?
“Lavorare nella serie Mcleod’s Daughters è stato un sogno per me e Stevie Hall è stato il ruolo della mia vita. Mi sento molto legata a quel personaggio, non solo perché l’ho interpretata per cinque anni, ma anche perché penso che ci siano molti aspetti delle nostre vite che sono leggermente intrecciati. Siamo entrambe ribelli, con il cuore in mano e con un grande desiderio di difendere gli “sfavoriti”. Credo che porterò sempre con me un pezzo di Stevie, ovunque vada”.
Negli ultimi anni si è parlato di un possibile reboot de “Le sorelle McLeod”. Le piacerebbe interpretare nuovamente Stevie?
“Mi piacerebbe interpretare di nuovo Stevie e, come molte persone là fuori, vivrò con la speranza che questo desiderio un giorno si realizzi”.
Sul suo profilo Instagram, nella home page, c’è scritto anche Professional dream chaser. Quanto è importante sognare oggi?
“Un sogno è in realtà solo una speranza… e non si può vivere senza speranza. Perciò inseguirò per sempre quei sogni, qualsiasi essi siano”.

Qual è il sogno che vorrebbe realizzare?
“In questa fase della mia vita vorrei completare il viaggio intorno all’Australia che ho iniziato nel 2016. È un sogno che ho fin da quando ero bambina e non posso pensare a una persona migliore di mio figlio Madigan per farlo. Purtroppo mio padre ha avuto dei problemi di salute e quindi mi sono presa cura di lui, questo non mi ha permesso di portare a termine il mio sogno, ma ho un piano per il prossimo anno: girare un po’ per volta alcune “parti” dell’Australia. Il prossimo febbraio ci prenderemo due mesi per viaggiare da Coffs Harbour, nel New South Wales, attraverso il South Australia e il Western Australia passando per il Nullarbor. Sarà un’avventura epica e mi aiuterà a realizzare un altro pezzo del mio sogno. Documenterò il tutto attraverso i miei social…. quindi se è una parte dell’Australia che volete vedere assicuratevi di restare sintonizzati”.
Il suo motto è “Non tutti coloro che vagano sono perduti”. Qual è la lezione più preziosa che ha imparato durante i suoi viaggi?
“La lezione più preziosa che ho imparato è quella di conoscere sempre, ovunque ci si trovi, la gente del posto, rispettare la loro cultura e abbracciare il loro modo di vivere. Mi piace fare la conoscenza di nuove persone, ascoltare le loro storie di vita e provare nuovi piatti. È un mondo meraviglioso e vario quello in cui viviamo e voglio vederne il più possibile”.
C’è un Paese in particolare che le piacerebbe visitare?
“In questo momento (oltre all’Australia) mi piacerebbe visitare di nuovo l’Italia. Io e mio figlio siamo stati a Roma nel 2019 e ci è piaciuta molto, ma mi piacerebbe vedere l’entroterra e mangiare ancora il vostro straordinario cibo”.
Il Natale è alle porte, qual è il suo ricordo più bello legato a questa festività?
“Quando ero bambina il Natale era sempre incentrato su Babbo Natale e sui regali, ma da adulta lo amo ancora di più. Vedere la felicità e l’entusiasmo per l’arrivo di questa festività negli occhi di mio figlio è una delle gioie più grandi dell’essere genitore. Lasciare fuori biscotti e latte per Babbo Natale, le impronte di renne nell’erba, dato che non abbiamo la neve (sorride)… Madigan ora ha 14 anni, quindi la magia che circonda alcuni aspetti del Natale è diversa rispetto a quando era più piccolo, ma riusciamo ancora a divertirci molto. E attendo con ansia il giorno in cui sarò testimone della gioia del Natale attraverso gli occhi dei miei nipoti. Auguri a tutti di Buon Natale e di un nuovo anno meraviglioso e sereno”.

An actress of great talent, she has starred in successful series such as ‘Baywatch’ and “McLeod’s Daughters”, a drama that is also very popular in Italy, in which she played the role of Stevie Hall for five years. A keen traveller but also an entrepreneur, Simmone Jade Mackinnon has created the ‘Wandering Ozzie Essentials’ line, which includes a wide range of beautifully crafted clothes and accessories and which also has a charitable purpose: for every single purchase made, in fact, a percentage of the proceeds will be donated to The Council Of Single Mothers and Their Children to help Australian single mothers and their children. So many great ideas for a classy gift, perhaps for Christmas.
In this exclusive interview, Simmone Jade Mackinnon spoke about her company, her participation in the reality show The Summit, her desire to play Stevie Hall again in a possible reboot of “McLeod’s Daughters” as she is very attached to that character, and the beauty of meeting and getting to know people and cultures by travelling the world, because as her motto says, ‘not all who wander are lost’.
Simmone, let’s start with your company Wandering Ozzie. How did this idea come about?
“When I first started traveling around Australia I decided to document my travels under the name of Wandering Ozzie. I had private social media accounts but I decided to share my travels with the world and I needed a pseudonym. Then when the pandemic hit I needed a job that I could do from home. So I created my Wandering Ozzie Essentials range. It’s basically all products and goods I like to use when I’m traveling. Everything from clothing to water bottles, journals to picnic blankets.I create what I like and use and then sell it in the hopes that people will like them too”.
A wonderful line of clothing and accessories but also a charitable purpose, in fact a percentage of the profits is donated to single mothers…
“I wanted to align myself with The Council Of Single Mothers and Their Children because I know first hand how tough it is being a single Mum. And if there was a way I could help them,then I wanted to do it”.
We recently saw you at The Summit 2024. What convinced you to participate in this reality show?
“I was approached by the producers of The Summit in late October last year. I had just watched the show and thoroughly enjoyed it so I jumped at the chance to compete. I knew it was going to be tough but nothing could have prepared me for how brutal it would be. It was the hardest physical adventure I have ever attempted. The pain I endured on that mountain was like nothing I’d ever put myself through before and that’s coming from an ex ballet dancer who knows pain well”.
It is an adventurous program that takes contestants to challenge their own limitations and frailties. What did she discover about herself that she didn’t know yet?
“The Summit pushed me to my limits physically, emotionally and psychologically. I learned that I am way stronger and resilient in all aspects and I have a drive in me that has, potentially been hidden, these last few years. It felt amazing to have that fire lit within me again”.
In her career, she played Stevie Hall in “McLeod’s Daughters”, a TV series that was also beloved in Italy. What did this character and this series add to your artistic and human journey?
“Working on Mcleod’s Daughters was a dream for me and playing the role of Stevie Hall was the role of a lifetime. I feel very connected to Stevie, not just because I played her for 5 years but because I think there are many aspects of both our lives that are slightly intertwined. We are both rebellious,where our hearts on our sleeves and have a great desire to defend the “underdogs”. I think I’ll always carry a piece of Stevie with me, wherever I go”.
In recent years there has been talk of a possible reboot of “McLeod’s Daughters”. Would you like to play Stevie again?
“I would love to play Stevie again. And I, like many people out there, will live with hope that this will come true one day”.
On your instagram profile, on the home page, it also says Professional dream chaser. How important is it to dream today?
“A dream is really just hope … and one can’t live without hope. So therefore I will forever be chasing those dreams. Whatever they may be”.
What is the dream you would like to achieve?
“At this stage in my life I would like to complete the trip around Australia that I started way back in 2016.Its a dream I’ve had since I was a kid and I can’t think of a better person to do it with than my son, Madigan. Unfortunately my father has been very unwell and I have been looking after him, which has held me back from completing this dream. But I have a plan for next year and that is to do “parts’ of Australia at a time. Next February we will take two months to travel from Coffs Harbour,NSW down through SA and over to WA via the Nullarbor. It will be an epic adventure and will help me in checking off a little more of my dream. I will be documenting it all via my socials….so if that’s a part of Australia you would like to see be sure to tune in”.
Your motto is “Not all who wander are lost”. What is the most valuable lesson you have learned during your travels?
The most valuable lesson I’ve learned is to always, no matter where you are, get to know the local people,respect their culture and embrace their way of living. I love meeting new people,hearing their stories about life and trying new food. It’s a wonderful and diverse world we live in and I want to see as much of it as I possibly can”.
Is there a particular country you would like to visit?
“I would love to visit every country if I could. But right now (other than Australia) I would love to visit Italy again. My son and I were in Rome in 2019 and we loved it but I would love to see more of the countryside and eat lots more of your extraordinary food”.
Christmas is coming up soon, what is your fondest memory related to this holiday?
“Christmas when I was a kid was always about Santa and the presents but as an adult I love it even more. Feeling the pure joy and excitement of Christmas through my sons eyes is one of the greatest joys of being a parent. Leaving out cookies and milk, reindeer footprints in the grass (we don’t have snow). Madigan is 14 now, so the magic that surrounds some aspects of Christmas isn’t like it used to be, but we still manage to have lots and lots of fun and I look forward to the day that I will witness the joy of Christmas through my grandkids eyes.
